Deuteronomy 8:17-18a And thou say in thine heart, My power and the might of mine hand hath gotten me this wealth. But thou shalt remember the LORD thy God: for it is he that giveth thee power to get wealth,
It’s an apt reminder that no matter how much we think we have done something, the very essence of life, the ability we have to achieve comes from God above.
For all the talk about AI achieving sentience, and the ideas man has to play God, the fact of the matter remains – the fundamentals of life are still very much a mystery to us. The human brain has such incredible complexity, that we have only just begun to unravel it. The breath in our lungs whilst so common every day, is still elusive as ever to understand how and why we start breathing.
Some might believe all the answers can be found in science, but if you believe the Bible is truth, then somewhere down the chain of science, you will find yourself face to face with God. There is no other explanation.
The ability of man, his breath, his consciousness, according to the Word is all a result of divine creation. When God breathed into man and he became a living soul, it set him apart from all other.
In our every day life it can be easy to forget at times. It’s exactly what the Lord was warning His people about in Deuteronomy. Beware lest when you have gained wealth, when you have achieved things, you say in your heart, my power has gotten me this!
It’s interesting that it’s not even vocalized. It’s simply in the heart. Beware! says the Scripture. For even though it may have been with your strength that you achieved, that you became wealthy. It could never have happened without the breath of God in your lungs. Beware! Lest you even think that you did it on your own. Even the thought is too far off. Don’t let it happen!
It brings to mind the words of Jesus when on trial before Pilate: ‘You have no power against me, except you received power from above’ (John 19:11). It ties into the idea of an Almighty God. That means literally, He has all the power! Any power you possess is simply borrowed from Him. If He wanted to, He could take all the power back and there’d be nothing you could do.
As you become successful, don’t forget to give the glory and praise to God, for without Him, you wouldn’t have the power to exist.
Omnes ad gloriam dei – All for the glory of God
